Hello!\u00a0 Welcome to my blog, “Things Always Happen for a Reason”, a class project slowly turning into something fun.\u00a0 Before this course, I never imagined myself blogging.\u00a0 However, with a bit of creativity and some caffeine, I am beginning to enjoy the challenge of turning my thoughts into words and finding a space where I can share bits of who I am with you<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little bit about me<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I am Jocelyn, a college student double majoring in business administration with a concentration in Marketing, and Spanish Language and Culture. The second major was kind of a push from an advisor so I could brag about having two degrees (to be fair, I do like the sound of that). I am always seeking opportunities to be challenged, and if that means embracing the chaos of a double major, then so be it.
My reasoning behind choosing Marketing as my studies is a bit silly. I watched Emily in Paris and fell in love with the lifestyle. Something about the character\u2019s creativity, confidence, and life just screamed \u201cyes\u201d to me. I wanted to have that similar lifestyle, but since hopping on a plane to France is not feasible at the moment, I figured studying marketing was the first step.
On campus, I serve as the president of the Latino Student Union (LSU), and I have been part of the club since my freshman year. We have worked hard to make LSU a safe, inclusive space where students can feel like they belong. One of our proudest achievements was an event last year. We organized our campus\u2019s first ever Latinx graduation ceremony. The celebration was powerful, emotional, and one of those full-circle moments that remind me why this kind of work matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have also thrown some fun cultural events such as Son de Cuba (a salsa and cumbia dancing night), a posada, and plenty of food sales. Earlier this year, I even took the LSU cabinet to Chicago for the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute conference. That was an incredible experience that made me even more proud of my roots and my role on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glimpse into my life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I travel to Mexico at least once a year, and I just came back from a university program trip there which was a blast, but also a little chaotic.  Picture this: I am in the hotel lobby, thinking we still have plenty of time before catching the bus to the university.  I run back to my room to grab something and decide to retouch my makeup and change shoes, feeling all confident and unbothered.  Then I come back down and the lobby is empty.<\/em>  My heart sank.  I called three colleagues before one finally answered and told me to sprint. Someone was holding the bus for me.  I run towards the person and the bus is right there<\/em>, but they will not let us back on unless we are at an official bus stop.  So we ran to the next one, my retouched makeup now melting off, but we made it just in time.  Dramatic? Yes.  Worth it?  One hundred percent.  That trip consisted of plenty more core memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another recent \u201cwhat is my life\u201d moment was actually a few weeks ago when I went skiing for the first time.  After practicing in the learning center for two rounds, I decided to hit the bunny hill.  I got off the lift, and started skiing down, everything was going great and I was getting this cool adrenaline rush.  Until I realized I had no idea how to slow down, much less how to stop.  I started flying down the hill, weaving through people like a panicked snowball, and all I could hear was my boyfriend in the distance yelling, \u201cPizza!  Do pizza!!\u201d  In a full state of panic, I did what I felt was the most logical move.  I purposely fell over.  Now I have a couple of bruises as a memory, and I would do it all over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrapping it up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This blog does not have a clear goal yet, but I want to use this space to explore the things I love such as marketing, culture, and even the occasional financial tips (I work at a credit union, so I have some advice up my sleeve).  I give a lot of advice in real life, and people tend to come to me when they need someone sweet but honest, and a little philosophical.  My mantra?  \u201cThings always happen for a reason.\u201d  And yes, I will repeat the saying until you believe in the phrase as well.
