Websites are a critical form of advertisement, and communication in several ways, serving as a central hub to share information, engage with audiences and promoting services. It allows an opportunity to create a community that is accessible for everyone, and a space where users can interact, learn and connect (Martinson, 2017). Websites can help build and maintain relationships, gain feedback and improve overall image to express the objective/cause. It’s important to establish website best practices, because it facilitates two-way communication, allowing organizations to gather feedback, respond to inquires and adapt based on user needs (Martinson, 2017).

User Experience
It is important to understand user experience begins with the physical, sensory, emotional and cognitive aspects of an individual’s interaction with a product or platform. User experience allows an opportunity to differentiate a specific brand and build competitive advantage. Research is important in user experience, because it identifies the best solutions and designs based on the needs, which identify optimal solutions. Center a design that involves not just the eye pleasure received, but by answering key questions, such as, “Who is the user?”, “What are the user’s wants and needs from your platform?”, and “What are the user’s capabilities, web skills, and available technology?” (Web Development and Design, 2022). While the aesthetics are important, focusing solely on the visual design can lead to overlooking accessibility and usability for some users. A strong user experience strategy would be to ensure the platform is not only attractive but also intuitive, inclusive, and functional for all users.
Blog Posts
Blog posts are utilized in several ways, which can enhance both communication and visibility. Additionally, it provides a dynamic platform where an online identity is created, curate a voice for a specific entity, promote engagement across diverse audience, and community building. Not only do blog posts create an interactive way to engage with consumers, but it can also be used as a tool for staff, investors, and journalists. By creating this interactive experience, blog posts should be assigned a page where it can be accessed and indexed by the search engine. Tag specific posts with keywords relevant to the SEO strategy (Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), 2022). Blog posts assist in the SEO and traffic, because consumers are not being directed to the post by a business name, but by keywords that represent the business, so being strategic in keyword terms is very important (J, 2020). Blog posts assist in viewing it in a different perspective and giving insight into the audience. It creates an environment to use detective skills and the “blogger” to think how their target audience thinks (J, 2020).

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search engine optimization (SEO) is used to enhance a website to rank higher on the search engine result pages, such as Google where relevant search items are listed. SEO assists in directing potential customers to a specific product or service. SEO filters and helps customers understand what is popular, or most relevant in their searching process. Additionally, SEO can provide long-term traffic without the on-going costs with other marketing routes. Choosing keywords that are directed to the target audience and they are the foundation of the search. Search engine optimization best practices include quality content creation, creating original content that is informative content that answers users’ questions (Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), 2022).
Website Development
Website development is transforming the web designs into an interactive website. Additionally, the importance of identifying how the website will be used, where it can run as a brochure site, or a little more complex functions like ecommerce (Web Development and Design, 2022). Website design is critical when drawing in the audience and retaining users. Layout assist in the accessibility and sharing what is needed to be visible for easier navigation purposes. Consistency in the visual identity, which includes carrying out specific elements, or brand, such as, a logo, which helps reinforce brand recognition and trust (Web Development and Design, 2022). With the increased use of mobile devices, responsive design is no longer optional. Websites must be evaluated regularly across various screen sizes to ensure they are visually appealing and easy to use on tablets, computers and smartphones.

Website best practices creates an opportunity for audiences to stay informed, engaged, and loyal. A thoughtfully designed website serves as more than just a digital storefront-it becomes a personal space where it is diverse, accessible and informative to its viewers/readers. A common space that encourages involvement from various stakeholders, whether they are customers, community member, partners, or potential collaborators. Best practices should include SEO integration, accessible features, clear navigation and consistency.

Hi Sarah, I loved your response and how clear it was. You emphasized the importance of not only focusing on the visual appeal, but also asking yourself who is your audience and what are their wants and needs? This made me think of my future brand (fashion) and who will be around my age range shopping at my store, their likelihood of technology knowledge, and what aesthetic my clothes give off and if it matches my website. Aesthetic is one thing, but it has to also be useful for the audience.
I agree that blog posts are not only useful for your voice of your brand, but also to interact with your customers and like you said, “to think how their target audience thinks”, which I never thought of. It is interesting and very helpful to get into the minds or psyche of your audience to target more towards their likings and be able to adapt to their wants and needs, while still being authentic to your brand. Also, blogs are not as much in your face as other apps, such as Instagram, so this also makes it more personable.
Website best practices are a combination of being visually appealing, engaging, accessible, informative, and consistent, and you explained that well.
Thank you for your post!
Hi Sarah,
Your post provides a thorough and well-structured overview of website best practices, and I appreciate how you tied together the four main factors into a cohesive strategy. I especially like how you emphasized that UX goes beyond visual appeal to address accessibility, inclusivity, and intuitive navigation. This is a point that is often overlooked, yet it directly impacts how diverse audiences interact with a platform. Your questions like “Who is the user?” and “What are the user’s wants and needs?” provide an great framework for grounding design choices in real audience insights.
I also think your discussion of SEO is well done. Highlighting the long-term benefits, such as consistent organic traffic without recurring advertising costs, underscores why it is worth the initial investment of time and research. The connection you made between keyword strategy and audience targeting is important, since too many organizations produce content without thinking strategically about search intent.
Your mention of responsive design as a non-negotiable is another strong point. With mobile traffic continuing to dominate web usage, ensuring seamless usability across devices is essential for retaining visitors. I also liked your take on blogs as tools for both public engagement and internal communication. That broader perspective shows how content can serve multiple audiences while still contributing to SEO and brand voice. Overall, great post, and I look forward to seeing what you have to bring this term!
Hi Sarah,
Very well-written and organized post. You covered a lot of important points! Addressing the basic questions of who the user is and what they want and need are very essential, but I think capability is an important factor that goes overlooked sometimes. We cannot assume all users have the same ability, web skills, and access to technology and we need to cater our web design to meet their needs. For example, a how-to guide on retirement benefits may need to have a simpler UI design than an advanced coding manual. This is a nice segue into the next topic of persona, and how we can best design digital media to have the most effective impact.
Another point that stood out to me in your post related to blog keywords and how crucial it is to tie them to your main idea or mission statement. We rely very heavily on search engines as a tool in filtering data to find what we need. It is crucial that we not only have the most relevant terms possible, but we filter out keywords that clash with our main idea. Site traffic that is not related to your target audience could skew data analytics and make it more difficult to determine the best messaging to use.
Looking forward to your other posts. I hope you have a great week!
