Persona Development Summary

A persona is a semi-fictional character that represents a target audience segment, grounded in real data and behavioral insights. It helps marketers humanize and better understand their customers, allowing for more strategic, targeted, and empathetic messaging.

In developing the Sage persona for Example River Adventures, I combined qualitative insights and data analysis to validate assumptions about our ideal customer, an emotionally driven, safety-conscious family decision-maker. Rather than rely on guesswork or traditional surveys, I used TripAdvisor reviews, social media content analysis, and AI tools like ChatGPT to analyze over 500 reviews and 1,000+ social media posts. I layered these findings with personal observations from the business to form a well-rounded, evidence-based persona.

This process made our marketing efforts more accountable by aligning storytelling, SEO, and content planning around a clearly defined audience, ultimately improving relevance, trust, and engagement.
